Description

Red Wing’s Apex line sits in an interesting place: a hiker-style mid-duty work boot built around sustainable materials, but with the durability and quiet authority of a Red Wing. The visual problem was matching that — premium enough to read as a product reveal, grounded enough to look like the boot belonged in the dirt. We solved it by letting the environments do the talking. Each vignette starts with the boot stepping into a different terrain — gravel, mud, mill-floor concrete — and the film’s momentum is carried by that footstep cadence, with the product benefits unspooling between strides.

I worked across design, animation, and compositing on this one. The closing 360-degree time-lapse of the boot at end-of-day became the resting point of the whole film — quiet, slightly worn, very Red Wing. The work for me was holding the texture detail through the hand-off from CG to comp, where most of the rugged-vs-premium tension actually gets resolved.
